2011 World Championships
The 2nd annual Global Powerlifting Alliance World Championships were held December 1, 2, 3, 4, 2011 at the Clarion Hotel in Jonesboro, Georgia. Nations represented were Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil from South America. From Europe were Finland, Germany, Romania, and Azerbaijan. The GPA is enjoying phenomenal success as the first and only completely raw International Powerlifting Federation.
Day 1 was bench press division starting with perennial champion Danna Tripp who increases her records on each contest finishing the day with a new record of 40kg in the 52kg open class, also winning the best lifter for master women. Marilia Coutinho of Brazil had a fantastic day with a record 105kg bench in the open 60kg class also winning best lifter honors for the open women. Anna Karrila of Finland was equally impressive with 92,5kg lifting in open and junior 90kg class.
Starting the men’s division was Russ Tripp, husband of Danna Tripp who finished with a record 130kg in the master 40-44 75kg class. Greg Zarus of the USA 82.5kg master 45-49 finished with 102.5kg. In the 82.5kg open class Trey Hague won with 157.5kg over Greg Zarus, who was competing in 2 divisions, with 102.5kg. Trey also won best lifter honors in the open men division. R. Garry Glenn of the USA and a leading member of the Georgia Irondawgs Team won the 90kg 55-59 class with 145kg. Robert Khun of the USA won the 90kg 55-59 class with 143kg record. Tom Sisk had the distinction of being the senior lifter of the contest and finished with a world record 140kg in the 90kg 75-79 age group. Tom also won best lifter honors for the master men.
Kendall Dean 45-49 100kg won his class with 127.5kg. In the 110kg 50-54 age group Zack Presley won with a world record 172.5kg. Trey McConnell 110kg open class finished with 135kg. Jody Seabolt of the USA competing as a junior 125kg class won with a record 190kg. Tim Moon of the Georgia Irondawgs had a good day winning the 125kg 45-49 class with 215kg over Chris Foster who had 195kg. Rocky Tilson rounded out the 125kg 45-49 class finishing 3rd with 117.5kg. Sami Huhtala of Finland competing in the open 125kg class won with a strong 180kg. Dustin Minks of the USA won the sub-master and open 140kg class with 177.5kg. Finishing up the bench press division was Uwe Thormann of the USA in the 110kg 50-54 class winning with 145kg.
Day 2 was women’s Powerlifting. Under close watch and expert coaching from her Father, Nelson Bulmash, Ariel Bulmash has become a world class powerlifter. She won her class, 16-17 age group 60kg, with a squat of 112.5kg, bench 72.5kg, deadlift 132.5kg finishing with 317.5kg. All records and also best lifter honors for teenage women. Marilia Coutinho of Brazil came to the USA to do some Powerlifting. She did, with the highest total of the women at 60kg bodyweight in the open division with a squat of 175kg on a 4th attempt, bench 100kg, deadlift 170kg, total 440kg for best lifter honors for the open women. Ariel Bulmash was the silver winner competing in 2 age groups. Annie Schwake of the Iowa team won her Sub-master 67.5kg class with a squat of 132.5kg, bench 67.5kg on a 4th attempt, deadlift 140kg, and total 332.5kg. Ann Salter of the USA via NGBB won her class 55-59 67.5kg with a squat of 87.5kg, bench 50kg, deadlift 115kg total 252.5kg. Body Builder turned Powerlifter Daisy Kuischmann of Colombia, South America won her 67.5kg open class with a 4th attempt World Record squat of 137.5kg, bench 65kg, World Record deadlift of 148.5kg, World Record total 348kg. Vanessa Gale, a student form the USA, won her Junior division 75kg class with a squat of 137.5kg, bench 60kg, 4th attempt World Record deadlift 150kg, total 345kg. Callerina Key, also a student from Alabama, USA, won her open division 75kg class with a squat of 137.5kg, bench 67.5kg, deadlift 165kg, total 372.5kg. Megan Salyars from Iowa, USA 18-19 82.5kg class won her division with a 4th attempt squat of 170kg, bench 67.5kg, deadlift 150kg for a total of 382.5kg. Kylee Barnes of the USA won her 18-19 90kg class with a squat of 25kg, bench 65kg, World Record deadlift of 144kg for a total of 234kg. Anna Karrila of Finland entered 2 divisions, open and junior, winning both with a squat of 132.5kg, bench 92.5kg, 4th attempt deadlift 147.5kg for a total of 370kg. Elease Crumedy of the USA finished the women’s day winning the 40-44 90+kg class with a squat of 142.5kg, bench 60kg, deadlift 145kg for a total of 347.5kg.
Louis Hoover of the USA led off the men’s powerlifting winning the 13-15 60kg division with World Records in the squat of 92.5kg, bench 70kg, deadlift 137.5kg for a tota; of 300kg. Scott Bowman, also of the USA, won the 75kg 16-17 class with 62.5kg squat, 62.5kg bench, deadlift World Record 210kg for a total of 335kg.Jason Samper of Colombia won the 90kg 18-19 class with World Records in the squat of 255kg, bench 115kg, deadlift 275kg, total 645kg. Sean Evans of the USA won the 100kg with a squat of 165kg, bench 137.5kg, deadlift 4th attempt World Record 205kg for a total of 505kg. Rudy Wernz of the USA won the Junior class 110kg and Best Lifter with a squat of 215kg, bench 182.5kg, deadlift 260kg, total 657.5kg. Marco Lamprecht of Germany totaled Elite and won Best Lifter sub-master men 110kg class with World Records in the squat of 302.5kg, bench 155kg, deadlift 285kg, total 742.5kg followed by Joshua Fuhrer in 2nd place with squat 245kg, bench 155kg, deadlift 290kg, for a total of 690kg. In the 110kg 13-15 class Jacob Evans won with squat 120kg, bench 75kg, deadlift 152.5kg, total 347.5kg. Finishing up the day 2 was Dylon Wagner of the USA winning the 125kg and Teenage Best Lifter Honors in the 18-19 class with a squat of 292.5kg, bench 212.5kg, deadlift 4th attempt Word Record 295kg for a total of 792.5kg.
Day 3 begins with Nicholas Skridla of the USA winning the open 75kg class with a squat of 160kg, bench 110kg, deadlift 227.5kg, total 497.5kg. Dan Dumitrache of Romania is probably the strongest 75kg raw lifter in the GPA but he failed with 3 attempts at 300kg in the squat not finishing. Maybe next year. Rene Holguin of the USA won the 82.5kg open class with a squat of 227.5kg, bench 165kg, deadlift 245kg, making a 4th attempt 250.5kg World Record, total 637.5kg over team mate Garrett Devers who failed to total. Kevin Eubanks, recovering from knee surgery had a great day winning the 90kg 40-44 class wit a squat of 195kg, bench 142.5kg, deadlift 240kg, total 577.5kg. Danny Overbay of the USA won the 90kg 50-54 class with 200kg squat, bench 122.5kg, deadlift 210kg, total 532.5kg. Steve Kylis of the USA won master Best Lifter and his 90kg 55-59 class with a 4th attempt World Record squat of 205kg, bench 150kg, deadlift 195kg, total 530kg. James Houston won the 90kg open class with a squat of 182.5kg, bench 125kg, deadlift, 187.5kg, total 495kg.
Jason Farrow of the USA won the 52kg 55-59 master class with a squat of 87.5kg, bench 65kg, deadlift 112.5kg, total 265kg.James Di Naso of the USA won the 67.5kg 40-44 class with squat 112.5kg, bench 112.5kg, deadlift 175kg, total 442.5kg. Marius Bratu of Romania in the open 75kg class failed to total. Larry Hoover of the USA from Indiana led the charge of the team from Indiana winning his 40-44 100kg class with a squat of 250kg, bench 175kg, deadlift 275kg, total 700kg. Saul Salazar of Colombia won the 45-49 100kg class with a squat of 220kg, bench 160kg, deadlift 220kg, total 600kg followed by Andy Williamson of the USA with a squat of 190kg, bench 142.5kg, deadlift 210kg, for a total of 542.5kg. James McCarty of the USA won his class while leading the team from Virginia with a squat of 252.5kg, bench 142.5kg, deadlift 237.5kg, total 632.5kg. Robert Smith if the USA won the open Best Lifter award while winning the open 100kg class with a squat of 275kg, bench 175kg, deadlift 267.5kg with a total of 717.5kg. With the Silver Medal Grant McCauley finished the day with a squat of 230kg, bench 147.5kg, deadlift 260kg total 637.5kg. Grant is also the coach of the great Iowa Team.
Day 4 leads off with the great Julio Samper of Colombia who won his 110kg 50-54 class with a squat of 282.5kg, bench 142.5kg, deadlift 262.5kg for a total of 687.5kg. Zahir Khudayarov of Azerbaijan won his open 110kg class totaling Elite with a 330kg squat, bench 230kg, which was the strongest bench of the day, deadlift 300kg, total 860kg. Another Elite lifter from the USA, Darrell Hoard, won his 40-44 125kg class with a squat of 310kg, bench 210kg, deadlift 305kg, total 825kg, also winning Best Lifter honors for the Master Men. Rocky Tilson of the USA won his 45-49 125kg class with squat 227.5kg, bench 120kg, deadlift 185kg, total 532.5kg. Mauro Spinardi of Argentina, also GPA Elite, had a great day in the open 125kg class starting with a World Record squat of 395kg, bench 220kg, deadlift World Record 341kg, with the highest total of the meet 956kg, also winning Best Lifter honors for the Open Men. Brandon Scarbrough of the USA won the Silver with a squat of 290kg, bench 160kg, deadlift 295kg, and total 745kg. Landon Jameson finished the open class with the Bronze Medal with a squat of 227.5kg, bench 187.5kg, deadlift 235kg, total 650kg.Gordon Varnedoe of the USA won his 140kg 70-74 class with all World Records with a squat of 70kg, bench 100kg, deadlift 125kg, total 295kg.William Greer of the USA won the 140+kg 40-44 class wit squat 137.5kg, bench 95kg, deadlift 150kg, total 382.5kg. Dave Wagner of the USA won the 60-64 140+ class with a squat of 152.5kg, bench 127.5kg, deadlift 240kg, total 520kg. Elite lifter Dwon Johnson of the USA won his open 140+kg class with a World Record squat of 403kg, the heaviest squat of the meet, bench 205kg, deadlift 295kg and the Elite total of 903kg.
The GPA Banner was passed to GPA South America President Mauro Spinardi to be displayed at the 2012 GPA World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships in Argentina, South America.
